2 weeks ago, Internet Explorer (finally?) said its goodbyes. And now the world is looking out for the next set of browsers that will rule the next years, or even decade (like Google Chrome has). Check out this data visualization of most used web browsers since 1994:
Cool eh?
Naturally, our heads turn to Web3 and what Web3 browsing would mean and bring. So more about this below!

💙 NEWS FROM OUR MATES
Creating experiences with the Transporter™ Haptic Transducer 🔊
Our mate David Lindberg introduced us to yet another piece of new technology, Taction Technology Inc.’s Transporter™ Haptic Transducer!
Bzzz, Bzzz, Bzzzzzzzzzzz, Bzzz, Bzzz, Bzzzzzzzzzzzz
You know haptic motors, the motors that help your phone and other devices vibrate? Each vibrate can have different durations, but they’ve mostly just been on a single frequency - limiting the way we immerse ourselves in what we do or watch on our devices. So what if we added even more? Being able to hear and “feel” (from deeper or lighter vibrations) each punch in an action movie better, or hear a helicopter more realistically when it passes you by in a video game - It would change your user’s experience forever 😉!
The Transporter™ behaves more like a full(er) range speaker that deliver haptic vibrations. This allows customers to model or tune the haptic experience to enhance bass experience or provide other tactile cues to the user. A very cool solution for gaming, movies, IoT devices and more you can imagine it with!
(If you want to test this out for yourself the Corsair HS60 has the Taction technology inside)
Features and Benefits
Minimal interference on acoustic drivers or microphones
Reduces the volume required for a heavy bass listening experience which protects user hearing
Improves response time in e-sports/gaming applications
Powerful and tunable tactile sensation for products up to 0.4 kg
Better performance than most subwoofers
High-fidelity, wide frequency response (15-250 Hz)
Unmatched deep bass sensation in 15-40 Hz range
Instant start — no lag / Instant stop — no ringing
Simple electronics – no high voltage, drive with standard audio components
🤸 FUN PRODUCT WE LOVE
Machine learning with no code using Lobe 🧠
Machine learning, and artificial intelligence for that matter, are highly complex to program - depending on your product of course. Good thing we’ve got founders like Adam Menges, who founded and built Lobe to help make it more accessible for all, with no code needed 🦾 (+ they got acquired by Microsoft in 2018 - that’s how great it is!)
How it works:
Label your images. Collect bursts using your webcam, or drag in a folder of images from your computer. Then quickly label your images to create a machine learning dataset.
Train automatically. Automatically train on your own computer without any setup or configuration. Understand the strengths and weaknesses of your model with live visual results.
Use your model. Use your model with your webcam or images from your computer. Improve your results by giving your model feedback on its predictions, then finally export it to your app.
Export Anywhere. When you are done, you can export your model to a variety of industry standard formats and ship it on any platform you choose.
Features:
Easy to Use. Designed to be easy enough for anyone to use. No code or experience required.
Free and Private. Train for free on your own computer without uploading your data to the cloud.
Project Templates. Lobe will automatically select the right machine learning architecture for your project. Image classification is available now, with more templates [data classification, object detection] coming soon.
Who it’s for: Anyone looking to add machine learning to your product 🔍
Price: Completely FREE! (Say thanks to Adam!)
💭 TECH FOOD FOR THOUGHT
All you need to know about browsing in Web3 🌐
As the Internet moves towards decentralization, you’ll see the use of Web3 and Web3 browsers gradually increase in the next years. So what exactly do we need to know about it?
On the surface, not too different from traditional browsers today - you just need a smart wallet if you’re accessing Web3 from traditional browsers.
Web3 browsers open up users to a world of digital economies and decentralized applications.
Works on a decentralized network on public blockchains with permissionless applications and protocols.
Any of your activity within will be secure, and not sold to corporations (like Meta).
Incentivizes users with financial incentives for engaging with content or watching curated advertisements. So:
Users get the benefits from their own data with a major share of profits.
The most popular Web3 browsers so far are Brave, Opera, Osiris, PUMA, Beaker.
🌱 TECH FOR SUSTAINABILITY
Using robotics to sort recycling 🦾
The world produces twice as much plastic waste as 20 years ago, and we’re only recycling 9% of them. The rest is left to be incinerated or dumped in landfills that pollute the environment. Why? Because mixed plastics are “worth less” than their single composite alternatives. Being able to sort plastics and its accuracy is what will bring value to the whole recycling process - and this is where this sorting robot comes in!
British startup Recycleye had built a robotic arm to help with this. It scans everything on the conveyor belt, compares what it sees with a huge database of images of waste items, then shoots it into a bin on the side - and it can pick up 3,300 items every hour!
💥 WHAT’S ON @ SPARKMATE
Collab with Tom Scott reaches 1M views 🎉
It all started with a question: “Can you really drive backwards?”
And it ended with us proving it is 😈 with a buggy kart that we built for him!
If you haven't seen it yet, check out Tom’s reaction to seeing, riding, and going behind-the-scenes of how we built it. It’s reached 1M views in a week - which should show you’re missing out on 10mins of fun watching the team enjoy what we’ve built because we CAN! 🚀
