šŸ’™ NEWS FROM OUR MATES

Test prototypes built with the tools you love with Sprig 🧪

Sprig was another product we found and loved, allowing you to test concepts and prototypes before you spend time on building (through helping you i.e. get feedback on your figma boards).

Now our mates at Sprig have just released integrations with 12 leading design tools, (of course including Adobe XD, Figma, and InVision) so product managers and designers can easily launch Sprig Concept & Usability Tests and capture rich feedback on prototypes built with your favorite tools. Go ahead and try it out!

šŸ’ TECH FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Can technology now read our minds? 🧠

Technically, and excitingly (or scarily?), yes!

A team at the University of Texas created a ā€œdecoderā€ or algorithm that can ā€œreadā€ words that a person can hear or are thinking of, using a functioning magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scan - being one of the first to use a non-invasive method to do so!

They trained their algorithm with fMRI brain recordings taken from 3 subjects - 1 woman, 2 men in their 20s and 30s. They were assigned to listen to 16 hours of podcasts and radio stories. The result? Their readings matched the recordings ā€œpretty wellā€, with little shortcomings of the decoder on conserving pronouns and mixing up first- and tird- persons.

🌱 TECH FOR SUSTAINABILITY

Making whirlpools to take off microplastics 🌪

There are at least 14 million metric tons of microplastics on the ocean floor, and are very difficult to get rid of from their minuscule size. But we’re discovering more and more ways to get rid of them, including German company Wasser 3.0 on using whirlpools!

Using whirlpools and a specially developed hybrid silica gel, all the process needs is to create a vortex in a tank of water. By adding a compound they made, which acts as a clumping agent, it draws microplastics together in popcorn-shaped lumps that rise to the surface and can be easily removed (like oil on top!). This allows them to also use it in any kind of water, from freshwaters, seawaters, to industrial and wastewaters.
