💭 TECH FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Here’s what an artificial womb facility could look like 🍼
Warning: prepare to be mindblown 🤯 Disclaimer: this is only a (very well thought-out) concept!
The global human population is reaching its peak, and studies suggest that numbers would only go down from here - which will take a hit on the younger population we need to support the future global economy. So, many are looking at technology to help with this: including science speaker Hashem Al-Ghaili (known for his outlandish tech ideas) who made a detailed video on how he thinks an artificial womb facility would work.
The 8-minute video showcases technologies that are already in use or seem within grasp, including being fully powered by renewable energy, parents being true biological parents of their babies with DNA, pods that mimic wombs completely with many sensors for monitoring, parents being able to speak and sing to their babies with speakers / see them with cameras inside, being able to adjust characteristics of the babies, and so much more. It’s 💯 worth the watch!
🌱 TECH FOR SUSTAINABILITY
Converting waves into electricity 🌊
Our oceans cover 71% of the Earth. So why not try making electricity with something we’re abundant in? Sea Wave Energy Limited (SWEL) is an R&D, UK-based company that’s been developing a spine-like floating device to collect energy from waves and converts it into electricity.
Called the “Wave Line Magnet”, the device is built using affordable, recycled materials like plastics, providing a much more climate-friendly alternative to traditional technologies. It consists of an array of floating platforms linked to a spine-like central power system that altogether seamlessly follows wave movement - being able to produce power levels of 100MW under the right conditions (bigger the waves, bigger the energy). It can also be easily repaired, maintained, produced and transported!
