💭 TECH FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Could ChatGPT end Google? 🤔

ChatGPT had only been released since November, and took the world by storm (even from its first week). And for those millions with access to it, it’s been the favorite source to ask questions and search for information. Which led to Gmail’s creator, Paul Buchheit, to make this tweet:

Google may be only a year or two away from total disruption. AI will eliminate the Search Engine Result Page, which is where they make most of their money. Even if they catch up on AI, they can't fully deploy it without destroying the most valuable part of their business!

Google is done. Compare the quality of these responses (ChatGPT) https://t.co/VGO7usvlIB

Compared to getting a response through tens of pages, ChatGPT provides rather accurate answers in a style of a conversation, with ability to answer follow-up questions.

Google’s best product is their search engine, monetizing through ads and adding products next to searches. So with more development on this AI, could it start to mark the end of Google Search?

🌱 TECH FOR SUSTAINABILITY

New material helps buildings regulate temperature 🏢

… and save energy!

Researchers at the University of Chicago's Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering (PME) have designed a “chameleon-like” building material that changes its infrared color based on the weather.

On hot days, the material can emit around 92% of the infrared heat it collects to cool the insides of buildings. And on cold days, emit just 7% of its infrared to keep the insides warm. The researchers explain it kind of like treating it like a person - “you add a layer when you’re cold and take off a layer when you’re hot,", requiring less use for AC’s or heaters.

💥 WHAT’S ON @ SPARKMATE

The Spark Tribe to go on another off-site trip 🌎

The global team went on our last off-site trip in September, soaking in the warm sun rays from Phuket, Thailand 🇹🇭

Now, we’re planning our next off-site trip in May - Can you guess where we’re going? 😉

To give you a benchmark, here’s where we’ve gone the past 2 years (since we started, not including the mini trips each hub and mates have also gone to ;) )

  • 2020:

    • Lisboa, Portugal

  • 2021:

    • Arcachon, SW of France

  • 2022:

    • Marsaskala, Malta

    • Phuket, Thailand

If you guess right, we might just come visit you next! 🙃
