How are you and your teams doing?! 🦾
Ours are pumped and ready to knock the rest of the week out, as we close and start a new milestone today - meaning shipping all the projects and prototypes we’ve been working on the past 5 weeks, and moving onto new and exciting ones for the next 5!
We also spent the weekend building something awesome over a Hackathon with our 🇭🇰 and 🇫🇷 teams, more about this below! ;)
Here’s what we’ve put together for your weekly Spark reads:

🤸 FUN PRODUCT WE LOVE
Your smart calendar assistant is here with Clockwise 📅
We all wish to have a personal assistant to handle our crazy busy schedules. But hey, we’ve got tech for that - or better yet, we’ve got Clockwise! ;)
Used by the teams at Netflix, Twitter, Airtable and more, Clockwise is a smart calendar tool that makes managing time a lot easier. On top of your usual schedule, you can allocate flexible meeting times, focus times, and automatically resolve overlapping slots. When not at the office, Clockwise will also help allocate travel times from estimations in Google Maps.
Clockwise can be downloaded as an extension on Google Chrome, and syncs with your Google Calendar. Pricing starts for free until you need more than 75 hours/week of “Schedule Assists”. So try it out, for productivity! 🦾
💭 TECH FOOD FOR THOUGHT
DJ Steve Aoki says he makes more from NFT’s than his music royalties 🎧
One of the world’s most known DJ’s Steve Aoki, says that when it comes to income, music royalties don’t even come close to NFT’s - saying he’s made more from his NFT sales in the past year than 6 albums over the past decade! 🤯
“…if I was to really break down, okay, in the 10 years I’ve been making music…six albums, and you [combine] all those advances, what I did in one drop last year in NFTs, I made more money,” Aoki said.
He made $888,888.88 on one of his NFT’s named “Hairy” last year, and still holds several tokens.
Makes you want to jump on the NFT bandwagon huh? 😏 Or is it all still just a fad?
🌱 TECH FOR SUSTAINABILITY
Could wooden batteries be the future of clean energy? 🔋
Finnish designers, Stora Enso, have found a material in wood called “Lignin”, that is being tested to produce sustainable battery power faster and can perform even better in lower temperatures!
Most lithium-ion batteries today use anode, made from graphite that’s formed through chemical reactions in unrenewable carbon compounds. Stora Enso aims to replace graphite with Lignin from trees (from forest waste, first!), ensuring a sustainable, renewable and scalable alternative.
Lignin makes up a third of all wood’s total composition, which is deposited in plant’s cell walls to make their structure firm and prevent them from rotting. It’s nature’s second most common macromolecule after cellulose!
💥 WHAT’S ON @ SPARKMATE
The 🇭🇰 & 🇫🇷 team does a Hackathon 🤙
What do you get when you put a crazy bunch of techies and engineers in a room, during the weekend, with 1 mission: to build something awesome? = The most WTF project we’ve seen and built 😂
To seize one of our 4-day work weeks, we welcomed some of our mates to come in if they wanted to work on a fun project together. And from an idea to a working prototype, we made a rather “unique” electric vehicle that will fit a Go-Kart game we’re developing!
To complete the vehicle and its functionalities, the team deep dived from video streaming and processing and embedded systems, to mechanical engineering and high power electricity, with the 🇭🇰 team focused on the software, and 🇫🇷 team on the hardware and actual car. Stay tuned for more ;)
