That is short for: Magnetically Adhesive Robot for Versatile and Expeditious Locomotion. So you guessed it, researchers at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology built it with magnetized feet - and it can rapidly move on floors, walls and ceilings, weighing 8 kilos.
It was made to help us humans investigate industrial sites that require dangerous work at high altitudes and confined spaces like steel bridges and shipyard welding platforms. Marvel can scan gaps and holes, and also be able to move through obstacles.
🌱 TECH FOR SUSTAINABILITYAn alternative to plastic: Seaweed 🌿
>6 billion tonnes of untreated plastic waste fill our streets and seas - only 9% of that is recycled, 12% incinerated. So you can imagine the many startups that are paving way to fixing that, including London-based Notpla: who have made completely natural, biodegradable packaging made from seaweed and plants.
With this technology, they’ve made 36,000 capsules for sports drinks for runners at the 2019 London Marathon, have created more than 1M takeaway food boxes for Just Eat, and are currently replacing over 100M containers across Europe. They also recently won $1M from Prince William’s competition Earthshot!
