Did you know that in airplanes, there is a little black box tucked away in the back to record every single activity of the airplane - one that would survive crashes so rescue teams can understand exactly what went wrong? Now imagine a much bigger black box, that has only 1 goal: to record everything there is on climate-related news and information, to help future civilizations understand what went wrong, in case we do completely destroy planet Earth.
Dubbed as Earth’s Black Box, it will be peacefully placed on our planet’s “most secure” location, which is apparently in Tasmania, Australia. It will be a solar-powered vault that will be as big as a school bus, filled with tons of hard drives, and encased in 3-inch thick steel designed to withstand disasters. Construction of the box will start in early 2022 - let’s make sure we do right by it!
